What do they do?
Tablet PCs are like normal laptops, but they have touch-screens which allow you to use a pen like you would normally use a mouse. Some of the more modern version don't even need you to use a pen - you can just use your fingers. They also tend to have inbuilt wireless, allowing you to walk about and write as you go.
Software
Tablet PCs tend to run on Microsoft XP Tablet PC Edition, or Windows Vista. However, some linux enthusiasts have been able to install the alternative operating system onto them. The main issue is to do with the hand-writing recognition capabilities, which do not come as standard in desktop operating systems.
